Citrus Aurantium is the Latin name for a citrus tree which grows bitter oranges. Traditionally being used by Chinese medicine and herbologists, the extract of the orange and the peel was used as a dietary supplement in concoctions with other herbs to suppress appetite. While other active ingredients of the citrus aurantium may contribute and even promote the effect, the main ingredient used in all weight loss products is synephrine, an alkaloid similar to ephedrine. It is a phenethylamine; it influences the alpha1 adrenergic receptor, constricting blood vessels, additionally increasing the heart rate and the blood pressure. The most obvious benefit to dieters is that it works without increasing the heart rate most often found in diet aids. The increased heart rate leaves dieters jittery and eventually, most dieters stop using the supplement and gain weight back. Now through using green tea extract, dieters get the weight loss benefits without any of the jittery effects, especially in obese individuals with hypertension and other cardiovascular complications.

Siberian Ginseng, with the Latin name Eleutherococcus senticosus, formerly named Acanthopanax senticosus, is a shrub at home in Northeastern Asia. Although it displays similar properties as Panax ginseng, it is actually a different genus. While the Chinese Ginseng is already well known, this Siberian Ginseng variety is becoming increasingly popular, bringing apparently similar effects, but being much less expensive. The properties differ and are very widespread, this herb is deemed an adaptogen, antioxidant, nervine and immune tonic, is anti inflammatory and is anticholesteremic. It is promoting the HPA axis depletion, reducing fatigue, stress, neurasthenia and sore muscle symptoms. Siberian Ginseng contains lipophilic triterpenoid saponins named eleutherosides, which are known to provide increased indurance, improvement of memory and cognitive abilities, is anti-inflammatory, immunogenic, and enhances the immune system.

Vanadium is a chemical element, which is listed in the list of elements as number 23, defining its atomic number. It is a metal and does not have a prominent role in human biology. It has shown in rats and chickens that a vanadium deficiency may result in reduced growth and reproduction deficiencies. Vanadium sulfate is deemed a very popular dietary supplement for the interaction with blood insulin. While providing some glucose control in people suffering from type 2 diabetes, proof for the claimed effect with body building athletes has not yet been scientifically established. In athletes with high levels of energy requirements a stabilized blood sugar may result in prolonged endurance, furthermore, vanadyl sulfate has gained popularity because of the apparent muscle recovery effect.
